Dr Swaminathan graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1982. In 1997, he further attained his Fellowship from the Royal College for Surgeons in Edinburgh, specialising in General Surgery. Dr Swaminathan has been specialising in General Surgery in which he has extensive experience.
He also trained in Urology under the Health Manpower Development Plan at North Middlesex Hospital in London, U.K. He has conducted basic research on adhesion formation in animals, and has published in peer-reviewed journal. He is currently conducting his private practise in Gleneagles Hospital and Parkway East Hospital and is also the Chairman of the Chapter of General Surgeons, College of Surgeons: Censor with the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, as well as a council member for the College of Surgeons.
In addition, Dr Swaminathan does voluntary work as a medical counsellor and has been a clinical tutor with National University of Singapore, teaching both undergraduates and post-graduates. He has given talks and lectures, including journal updates, and has also been involved in the organisation of scientific meetings and hospital seminars. He attends international congresses regularly and is interested in bringing new technology that has been tested and proven. Dr Swaminathan's clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery and urology.
