Dr Christoper Chong is a urogynaecologist and obstetrician & gynaecologist (O&G) at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
His subspecialty includes cystocele mesh repair surgery, laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery, prolapse, incontinence and pelvic floor reconstruction surgery, surgery using the tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) sling procedure, and vaginal rejuvenation (vaginoplasty). His expertise includes the treatment of female genital cancer, female sexual dysfunction, heavy periods, infertility, menopause, menstrual cramps, ovarian cysts, prolapses of the womb, bladder and bowel, sub-fertility, urinary incontinence, urinary tract infections, uterine fibroids, and vaginal discharges and infections. He also performs women’s health screenings and colposcopy.
He graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He obtained memberships to the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, and obtained a master’s degree at NUS. Dr Chong was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan for fellowship training in urogynaecology in Australia. He is a Ministry of Health-accredited specialist in the field of assisted reproduction.
In the treatment of stress urinary incontinence, Dr Chong is one of the earliest few doctors in Asia to perform TVT and mesh surgeries, and Botox injection into the bladder. His study on mesh repair has been quoted on the Te Linde’s textbook on O&G, and he has performed more than 10,000 sling surgeries. Dr Chong is currently also a visiting senior consultant at the Urogynae Centre at KK Women's and Children’s Hospital.
Besides his clinical work, he is a clinical lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Duke-NUS Medical School. He is an examiner with the RCOG exam. Dr Chong is the chairman of the Gleneagles Hospital medical advisory board, and an elected member of the Singapore Medical Council. He is also the emeritus professor at Calmette Hospital, Cambodia.
Dr Chong is the president of the Singapore Urogynaecological Association and a past director of the International Urogynecological Association’s board. He is a committee member of the AOFOG urogynaecology committee, a council member of the Asian Society for Female Urology and chairman of the Chapter of Urogynaecology, Continence Society of Singapore. Dr Chong is the founding member of the Asia Pacific Urogynaecological Association and the Asia Urogynaecological Society. He also sits on the board of trustees and the executive board of the Asia-Pacific Urogynaecological Association. He is the chairman of the urogynaecology section of the Continence Society of Singapore and for Controversies in Obstetrics, Gynaecology & Infertility in Asia. He is the editor of the International Urogynecology Journal.
He has written many papers and conducted research. He is frequently interviewed in the media and has lectured overseas. He has conducted many soft cadaver workshops in Thailand’s Chulalongkong Medical University to train Asian gynaecologists in prolapse and incontinence surgeries.
He was awarded the Spirit of Enterprise Social Award for his charity work and medical mission work overseas, including in countries like Cambodia and Thailand. Dr Chong has won several awards for his patient care, including the KK CEO Heart Award.
