Dr Arthur Lee is a psychiatrist practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
His clinical focus is in assessing, contextualising and treating emotional and mental health conditions such as job adjustment and stress-related disorders, relationship, role and boundary conflicts, obsessions and compulsions, panic attacks, anxiety and depression.
Dr Lee’s expertise covers alcohol, sexual and internet addictions, impulse control disorders, mood disorders and general psychiatry. His clinical management consists of confidential personalised evaluation, medications, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, education, counselling, and strategies for problem solving and lifestyle improvements.
He was the former head of the Institute of Mental Health’s (IMH) addiction medicine department, and Alexandra Hospital’s (AH) psychiatry and addiction medicine services. He was also a clinical lecturer and tutor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and adjunct assistant professor at Duke-NUS Medical School.
His postgraduate training was at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto, Canada. He also had clinical engagements at the Betty Ford Center, UCLA, in USA, and various hospitals in Australia.
Dr Lee pioneered addiction treatment and rehabilitation in Singapore with the modified Minnesota Model & the 12 Step Therapeutic Programs. He further refined a wide variety of addiction treatment modalities, support groups and clinical training for counsellors, MSWs, psychologists, and psychiatrists. In addition, he spearheaded teams in developing and advancing emotional wellness and addiction support services.
In teaching, he was active in local and international scientific conferences, university courses, seminars and examinations for doctors, medical students, pharmacists and nurses at Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and Duke-NUS Medical School. He has also contributed to research, medical books, journals, and the media on addiction and mental health issues.
His other professional activities include editorial reviews, addiction modules and curriculum writing, as well as exam assessment and coordination. He also held rigorous engagements in training, supervising and mentoring psychiatrists besides formulating clinical protocols, algorithms and clinical guidelines for doctors. His experience covers medical, forensic and expert reports for the Courts, the Singapore Medical Council and public institutions.
Dr Lee continues to take a keen interest in medical and ethical advances in the treatment and preventive aspects of mental health, addictions, role transitions, adjustments, anger and stress management, as well as family and lifestyle issues across diverse cultures.
