Dr Lewis Liew is a urologist practising at Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
His clinical expertise involves the screening, prevention and treatment of urological problems for various age groups, and for both men and women.
Treatments include open and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery of the urinary tract system and male reproductive system, and male ageing treatment. He has performed various laparoscopic urological surgeries, such as laparoscopic prostate, kidney, bladder and ureter surgery.
Dr Liew is also a kidney transplant surgeon and a member of the national kidney transplant team under the Ministry of Health, Singapore.
Dr Liew completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Sheffield, UK in 1992. He then pursued basic surgical training in the UK and obtained his surgical fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK in 1997. He subsequently underwent advanced urological training at the National University Hospital (NUH) in Singapore in 1998, and completed his urological specialist training in 2002.
Dr Liew was a clinical fellow at the St James's University Hospital, Leeds, UK, where he trained in the fields of endourology (minimally invasive treatment of kidney stones) and laparoscopy under the mentorship of Dr Adrian Joyce. Dr Liew then underwent robotic surgery training in 2006 and gained experience in robotic assisted prostate surgery using the da Vinci robot.
Dr Liew was formerly a consultant urologist at NUH in 2004. There, he established a laparoscopic service at the Department of Urology.
Dr Liew is a life member and the current treasurer of the Singapore Urological Association. He is also a member of the Societe Internationale d’Urologie and Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia.
Dr Liew has published in peer reviewed local and international medical journals and book chapters. He has been invited to lecture at many local and regional meetings. He has also been an instructor in numerous laparoscopic courses and workshops.
