Dr Ivan Chua is an orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
His subspecialty interests are in orthopaedic trauma and sports injuries, joint replacement and reconstruction, orthogeriatrics, osteoporosis and bone health, and limb deformity reconstruction.
He was the former head of the orthopaedic trauma service at Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s (TTSH) department of orthopaedic surgery. He is currently a visiting consultant at TTSH, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Woodlands Health Campus.
Dr Chua graduated from the National University of Singapore and completed his training in orthopaedic surgery. He was awarded the AO Trauma fellowship and completed a 6-week training fellowship in computer-assisted surgery in orthopaedic trauma surgery. He was also awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan award and completed a 1-year training programme in orthopaedic trauma surgery at the trauma unit in Foothills Hospital, University of Calgary, Canada.
At TTSH, he took over the orthogeriatric programme for hip fractures, completed a bundle payment pilot with Ministry of Health/TTSH, and expanded the programme to other fragility fractures. He also started the osteoporosis liaison service at the hospital.
He has performed more than 150 primary knee and hip joint replacements (including robotic joint replacements), more than 30 shoulder and elbow joint replacements, and more than 2,000 fracture and fracture-related procedures.
He has authored or co-authored more than 20 scientific publications. As a recognised domain expert in orthopaedic trauma surgery and orthogeriatric care, he has presented in numerous local and regional scientific meetings.
Dr Chua is also the chairman of the Singapore Orthopaedic Trauma Society; chairman of the Fragility Fracture Network Singapore; and education officer of the AO Trauma Singapore Council.
He is a recipient of the 20-year Long Service Award.
