Dr Jonathan Foo is a general surgeon practising at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
His specialises in minimally invasive colorectal surgery.
Dr Foo has a special interest in laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgeries and advanced colorectal procedures such as colonic stenting and transanal surgery including transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME). He has performed pioneering work for TaTME for low rectal cancers and the use of the indocyanine green technique to optimise patient clinical outcomes.
His other clinical interests are in laparoscopic ventral hernia repair and therapeutic endoscopies.
In 2012, he was awarded the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) scholarship where he spent a year with renowned colorectal surgeon Professor Amjad Parvaiz at the Minimally Invasive Colorectal Unit in Portsmouth, UK, a national training centre for laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery. Under his mentorship, Dr Foo mastered advanced techniques in laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery and concurrently served as a proctor at colorectal courses in the UK, Europe and Russia.
Prior to establishing his private practice, Dr Foo was a consultant surgeon in the department of surgery at Alexandra Hospital and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.
His interest in teaching has led to him to continue to present and share experiences with surgeons in the Asia-Pacific region. Dr Foo was the chairperson of the Surgical Skills Lab where he coordinated and conducted laparoscopic training courses for local and regional participants.
Dr Foo firmly believes that every surgical procedure must be customised to the individual in order to achieve an optimal outcome for his patients.
