Dr Gwee Kok Ann is a gastroenterologist practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
He specialises in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and constipation, and is lead author of the publication Asian Consensus on the Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
In addition to the management of stomach, liver and bowel disorders, Dr Gwee provides expertise in dyspepsia, indigestion, gas-related conditions, bowel habit training, dietary management of food intolerance, refractory gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), H. pylori infection, and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
His hepatology interests are the management of fatty liver and hepatitis E.
Dr Gwee is a member of the Rome committee that publishes international guidelines for research and management of functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, and was recipient of the Rome Foundation Research Award in 2014.
He is the scientific chairman of the Southeast Asian Gastro Motility Association (SEAGMA). He was the former president of the IBS Support Group and the Asian Neurogastroenterology and Motility Association (ANMA), an expert panel organisation dedicated to the science and practice of neurogastroenterology and motility.
Dr Gwee is an adjunct associate professor of medicine at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
He has international publications on the role of probiotics in clinical management, post-infectious IBS, the roles of melatonin, sleep disturbance and gluten sensitivity in IBS, endoscopic evaluation of GERD, and the effects of H. pylori treatments in dyspepsia.
