Dr Lau graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Monash University in Australia. He also completed his Masters of Medicine in Internal Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 1986. In 1998, Dr Lau was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh.
Prior to being a Consultant Cardiologist in the private practice in 2005, Dr Lau was a Senior Consultant Cardiologist at the National Heart Centre, Singapore from 1994. He was also the Director for Training and Education at the National Heart Centre from 1999 till 2001. Dr Lau also held the post of Clinical Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore from 2000 to 2006.
Dr Lau has published 73 peer-reviewed regional and international scientific articles, 17 invited articles and editorials, and 17 book chapters (including chapters in Futura Publishing Co, Inc, New York, McGraw Hill, New York, Martin Dunitz Ltd, London, UK, WB Saunders Co Ltd, London, UK.) He has also been invited to perform numerous "Live" (demonstration) interventional cases, conduct international interventional cardiac workshops. In addition to that, Dr Lau has been invited to lecture and chair numerous regional and international cardiac meetings.
Dr Lau’s clinical interests include General Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology (Diagnostic Right and Left Heart Studies, Diagnostic Coronary Angiography, Coronary intervention and mitral valvuloplasty).
