Dr Bernard Lau is an orthopaedic surgeon at Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Hospitals, Singapore.
He subspecialises in the management of foot and ankle conditions, and sports injuries. His areas of expertise include minimally invasive bunion correction and ankle arthroscopy (keyhole) surgery.
Prior to joining private practice, he served as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the National University Hospital (NUH), where he was a member of the division of foot and ankle surgery, division of hip and knee surgery, and division of sports medicine. He was one of the founding members of the foot and ankle service at Alexandra Hospital under the National University Health System’s management. He continues to be a visiting consultant at NUH.
Dr Lau obtained his basic medical qualifications from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He then underwent postgraduate training in orthopaedic surgery at NUH. Upon completion of his training, he was admitted as a fellow to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK. He subsequently underwent further subspecialty training in foot and ankle surgery in Australia.
He continues to be active in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He was an adjunct assistant professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and a clinical educator at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. Dr Lau is also an active faculty member of the AO Trauma Foundation.
He has published numerous articles in both local and international peer-reviewed journals. He has also presented at local, regional and international conferences such as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the International Federation of Foot and Ankle Societies meetings.
Dr Lau also regularly holds public awareness talks on orthopaedic conditions.
