Dr Adrian Liew is a nephrologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
He has specialty interests in diabetic kidney diseases, glomerular diseases, kidney transplantation, and peritoneal dialysis.
Prior to private practice, Dr Liew was the founding chief of nephrology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s Department of Renal Medicine and programme director for the Chronic Peritoneal Dialysis programme.
He was also a senior consultant with the Ministry of Health and was involved in various national initiatives including chairing the National HALT-CKD programme, which saw the successful prevention of kidney failure at the primary care level. In addition, he was an associate professor at Nanyang Technological University’s Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, where he oversees the renal medicine curriculum and clinical examination.
In recognition of his expertise in nephrology, Dr Liew was elected to the fellowship of various international academic institutions including the Academy of Medicine Singapore, Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and the American Society of Nephrology.
In 2020, he received the John Mayer Award from the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis, an award that honours individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of peritoneal dialysis.
Apart from clinical work, Dr Liew is also a member of the executive committee and an elected council member of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and chairs the ISN Oceania-Southeast Asia Regional Board and the ISN Renal Disaster Preparedness Working Group.
He is also the elected secretary and executive of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis and an appointed member of the KDIGO Guideline working groups for glomerular diseases as well as diabetic kidney disease.
He chairs the Asian-Pacific Society of Nephrology Guideline working group on diabetic kidney disease and Dialysis Sub-group for the ISN Global Strategy for End-Stage Kidney Disease. He is also the national leader and global steering committee member for various multicentre clinical trials.
