Dr Lim Khong Hee graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1992. He obtained his postgraduate degree in 1998 and was a Clinical Fellow (HMDP) in Upper Gastrointestinal and Laparoscopic Surgery at the renowned Princess Alexandra Hospital (Brisbane) in 2002. He was admitted to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in the Specialty of General Surgery in 2004. He also became a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore) in 2004.
Prior to establishing his private practice, Dr Lim was the Chief of the Upper Gastrointestinal Service and Senior Consultant in the Department of General Surgery, Tan Tock Seng Hospital. During his tenure as the Director of the Centre for Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Dr Lim encouraged the development of complex and cutting-edge laparoscopic skills and techniques as well as led the organisation of basic, advanced and masterclass laparoscopic courses. He had also established network with international centres of excellence such as Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and International Endoscopic Obesity Centre, in E-Da Hospital (Taiwan).
Dr Lim has had wide exposure to upper gastrointestinal and advanced laparoscopic procedures such as radical gastric resections with systematic lymphadenectomy, laparoscopic fundoplication, and laparoscopic surgery for morbid obesity. He has also gained much experience in both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (including ERCP). Dr Lim was actively involved in the teaching of basic and advanced surgical trainees and was the Programme Co-ordinator for the Introduction to Colonoscopy Programme (Virtual Reality-based). He was also a Clinical Lecturer in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and an Examiner in the Final Professional Examination for the Degrees of MBBS.
Dr Lim was the Track Leader for the Laparoscopy Symposium within the National Healthcare Group (NHG) Annual Scientific Congress 2008 and a Clinical Tutor for the Exit Exam Preparatory Course 2009 and 2010 organised by the Chapter of General Surgeons. In addition, Dr Lim is a reviewer in the Annals, Academy of Medicine, Singapore as well as the Singapore Medical Journal. He has been an invited Speaker and Chairperson for numerous local and regional meetings. He was also a member of the Credentials and Accreditation Committee, Endoscopy Committee, Quality & Patient Safety Committee and Hospital Transfusion Committee of Tan Tock Seng Hospital. His research interests include oesophageal and gastric cancer, hernia and minimally invasive surgery. He is also a member of the Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA) and Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).
