Dr Ling Khoon Lin is a gastroenterologist practising in Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
His main clinical interests are gastritis associated with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).
After completing his basic specialist training in internal medicine, Dr Ling trained in gastroenterology at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) from 1997 – 2000. He was later awarded a fellowship by the Ministry of Health in 2001 to train in the management of inflammatory bowel diseases in the University of Oxford under Professor Derek Jewell and Dr Simon Travis. He was subsequently awarded a Research Fellowship from the National Medical Research Council and remained in Oxford for another 3 years, where he studied for a PhD in cancer immunology.
Dr Ling served at SGH as a consultant in the department of gastroenterology and hepatology in 2005 and was made the head of the department in 2012. Working with the pathology department in SGH, he helped to introduce the H. pylori stool test and H. pylori culture into routine clinical service.
In addition to running a clinical practice, Dr Ling is active in research and education. His research interest is in the immunology of gastric and colorectal cancers, in particular, the role that chronic inflammation plays in their pathogenesis and treatment.
