Dr Ng Chee Yong is a renal physician at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
He sees patients with various kidney-related conditions such as chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, hypertension, glomerulonephritis and electrolytes imbalances. He provides kidney replacement therapies like haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis as well as extracorporeal blood purifications in intensive care units such as continuous kidney replacement therapies and therapeutic plasma exchange.
He was a renal physician at SingHealth.
Dr Ng graduated from the University of Malaya. After completing his basic specialist training in internal medicine, he underwent renal senior residency training in SingHealth, covering both Singapore General Hospital and Changi General Hospital. He was awarded a Health Manpower Development Plan award to pursue his special interest in renal osteodystrophy at Columbia University Medical Center, USA.
He was involved in the holistic approach in lowering and tracking of chronic kidney disease programme by the Ministry of Health. Besides that, he was the chairperson of the ensure patient safety – care of patient workgroup. Other contributions were dedicated inpatient care team, discharge efficiency taskforce, mortality and morbidity committee for renal medicine and advance care planning programme.
Dr Ng was also a clinical assistant professor at Duke-NUS Medical School, adjunct senior lecturer at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and clinical lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He was also an examiner for the Bachelor medical degree examinations. He also participated in postgraduate education – he was a clinical physician faculty member for SingHealth internal medicine residency programme and physician faculty for SingHealth renal senior residency programme.
He is serving as an executive committee member of Singapore Society of Nephrology. He is also invited as speaker for kidney conferences such as the National Kidney Foundation Kidney Care Conference and the Singapore Society of Nephrology Annual Scientific Meeting.
Dr Ng was an investigator in an international pharmaceutical trial to retard progression of chronic kidney disease, which has now been approved as a new treatment for chronic kidney disease and heart disease. He presented at international conferences and published research articles in international journals.
He was conferred the Singapore Health Quality Service Award and Hero Award for his contributions in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
