Dr Ng Tsun Gun is a renal physician who offers a comprehensive range of services in general nephrology. At his clinic in Mount Elizabeth Novena and Gleneagles Hospitals, he provides specialised care in the management and treatment of resistant or difficult hypertension, glomerular diseases, diabetic kidney disease, chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, complex urinary tract infections and urinary calculi. Patients who require haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and renal transplantation are also under his care.
Upon his graduation from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (MBBS, 1998), Dr Ng underwent basic training and then completed specialty training in Internal Medicine (MRCP UK, 2003). Following his Advanced Specialist Training in Renal Medicine, he obtained specialist accreditation in 2007. Then, through the Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) Award, he undertook a one-year fellowship at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. His training there focused on recent advances in haemodialysis care including home haemodialysis and nocturnal haemodialysis. In 2009, he was inducted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and was conferred Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore the following year.
Prior to his move to private practice, Dr Ng was a consultant in the Department of Renal Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. During his tenure, he served as the Director of the Chronic Haemodialysis Programme and was the Medical Directors of Nephrocare Singapore Dialysis Centre and B Braun Avitum Dialysis Centre. He remains a Visiting Consultant to the National Kidney Foundation and the Kidney Dialysis Foundation, Singapore.
With his strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, Dr Ng has been a Clinical Teacher at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine since 2010. He was also appointed Core Clinical Faculty and the Renal Medicine Subspecialty Coordinator for the National Healthcare Group’s Internal Medicine Residency Programme. IN addition, Dr Ng contributes towards nursing education as well. He is a Visiting External Lecturer for the Advanced Diploma in Nursing Course at Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Health Sciences.
Dr Ng has a keen interest in research too. He was the Principal Investigator in many international multi-centre randomised controlled trials involving patients with kidney diseases while he was at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He is also frequently invited to deliver lectures at local and regional scientific meetings as well as at public forums in both English and Mandarin.
Beyond his clinic and patients, Dr Ng is highly committed to the field of nephrology. He has been in the Executive Committee of the Singapore Society of Nephrology since 2008, and is currently in his third elected term as Honorary Secretary. He was awarded the National Healthcare Group’s Courage Star Award for overcoming SARS in 2003 as well as the Excellent Service Award (Silver) in 2005 by Spring Singapore.
