Dr Gavin Ong is a dermatologist practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
His subspeciality interests include sexual health, sexually transmitted infections (STI) and HIV dermatoses, having completed his fellowship at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and St Stephen's Centre in London, the biggest STI/HIV centre in the UK.
He provides services from medical dermatology to cosmetic dermatology, and is experienced in treating medical skin conditions like acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin allergies, skin cancers and inflammatory skin conditions.
In cosmetic dermatology, he addresses common hair-related concerns (eg. too much or too little on the scalp, face or body), skin pigmentation, excessive perspiration (underarms, palms and soles) and facial aging.
For sexually transmitted infections, he is well-trained in the areas of sexual health screening, as well as the treatment and prevention of STIs. These include STI vaccination services, 4th generation HIV rapid testing, post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
Dr Ong completed his dermatology training at the National Skin Centre (NSC), and was previously practising as a consultant at NSC. He was also a visiting consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).
His previous appointments include being the deputy head of the Department of STI Control, and a public health officer under the Ministry of Health (MOH). As the deputy head at the Department of STI Control, he was actively involved in numerous public sexual health programmes and initiatives with MOH.
Dr Ong was previously an executive committee member of the Dermatological Society of Singapore (DSS), and remains a member of DSS today.
He is an international fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), a member of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), and a member of The International Union against Sexually Transmitted Infections (IUSTI).
Dr Ong has presented and published numerous research papers in conferences and scientific journals. He has also been actively involved in medical education at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Duke-NUS Medical School.
