Dr Tang Tjun Yip is a vascular and general surgeon at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
His specialty is in open vascular surgery and endovascular interventions. His clinical interests include aortic aneurysms (thoracic, thoracoabdominal and abdominal), deep vein thrombosis, diabetic foot disease, lymphoedema, peripheral arterial disease, varicose veins, and venous ulcers.
Dr Tang is a former senior consultant in the department of vascular surgery at Singapore General Hospital, and a consultant in the vascular service in the department of general surgery at Changi General Hospital. He also helped to establish the vascular service at Sengkang General Hospital.
Dr Tang has performed more than 500 vascular operations each year for the past 12 years. He has been practising medicine for more than 20 years.
He graduated from Queens’ College in Cambridge, UK, and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, with a distinction in surgery. He received his doctorate of medicine from the University of Cambridge for research into carotid plaque inflammation imaging for stroke. After completion of his surgical training, he was awarded a Cook British Society of Endovascular Therapy fellowship and undertook further endovascular training at Leicester Royal Infirmary, UK followed by a postgraduate fellowship at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, Australia.
Dr Tang is experienced in using mechano-chemical ablation (Clarivein) and cyanoacrylate glue (VenaSeal) to treat varicose veins, and was the earliest clinician in Singapore to use tissue healing therapies for diabetic foot and venous ulcers.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
Regionally, he has travelled to run multiple endovascular lower limb revascularisation workshops, served as an expert proctor and case demonstrator for superficial and deep endovenous surgery devices, and is regularly invited to speak at international and regional vascular conferences.
He was a co-founding member of the Society of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery of Singapore and an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh, UK. He was a clinical associate professor at Duke-NUS Medical School, and a clinical senior lecturer and adjunct associate professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He was a director of research at SingHealth Duke-NUS Vascular Centre.
Dr Tang is the recipient of several awards including the National Medical Research Council Clinician Scientist Award, SingHealth Healthcare Hero and Service with a Heart Award.
