Dr Valerie Tay Su-Lin is an ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
She has experience dealing with patients who have all types of ENT, breathing and sleep problems. She also does surgery for the nose and sinuses, face and neck (including endoscopic sinus surgery, salivary gland and thyroid surgery) for adults and children (with common problems such as allergic rhinitis, enlarged tonsils and adenoids). She has special interests in breathing and sleep problems, septorhinoplasty (or ‘nose job’), facial plastic surgery, facial nerve palsy and facial rejuvenation.
Dr Tay is a visiting consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). She was the former chief of the facial plastic surgery service at TTSH’s ENT department, where she started the facial palsy clinic in Singapore.
She graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS), and was the recipient of the ENT Bookprize, an award for the best student of the year in otolaryngology. She received the Health Manpower Development Plan award to pursue specialty training, and obtained her otorhinolaryngology specialist accreditation from Singapore and became fully accredited as an ENT surgeon.
Dr Tay is one of the earliest doctors in Singapore to be trained in Seoul to perform scarless surgical rhinoplasty or septorhinoplasty using graft harvested from the nasal septum, or ear or rib cartilage.
She is the current president of the Society of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery Singapore and a member of the Chapter of Otorhinolaryngologists, Academy of Medicine.
Besides her clinical work, Dr Tay has served as a clinical senior lecturer at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine; adjunct senior lecturer at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine; and core clinical faculty member of the National Healthcare Group’s otorhinolaryngology residency programme.
She is also an author for facial plastic surgery textbooks, such as Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a textbook for otolaryngology residents in North America.
