Dr Derek Yong is an interventional cardiologist at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
His expertise includes CT coronary angiography, with a subspeciality in invasive and interventional cardiology.
His areas of medical interest include complex coronary intervention. He is experienced in helping patients with complex bifurcation disease, left main coronary disease, bypass graft disease and chronic total occlusion (CTO).
His treatments include the use of advanced interventional techniques such as rotational atherectomy and invasive coronary imaging techniques such as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT).
Dr Yong was the former chief cardiologist lead and clinical director at the heart failure services and clinical programme at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Jurong Community Hospital, JurongHealth.
He played a key part in developing the key cardiology services in Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, instituting the invasive and interventional cardiology services.
Actively sharing his knowledge and expertise, Dr Yong is also a physician core faculty member of the cardiology senior resident programme in the National University Hospital of Singapore.
He is a clinical lecturer with the faculty of medicine at the National University of Singapore.
Dr Yong has full practising rights as a consultant general and interventional cardiologist in Australia.
Outside of work, Dr Yong is an avid tennis player who was part of the Singapore National Team. He has won several tennis championships, and also holds the record for being the youngest person ever to represent Singapore in the international Davis Cup competition.
