Dr Yoong Chee Seng is an anaesthesiologist and pain physician at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.
He has special interests in chronic pain interventional procedures and regional anaesthesia.
Prior to entering private practice, Dr Yoong was the director of the chronic pain service, and the chief of the department of anaesthesia and surgical intensive care at Changi General Hospital (CGH).
He obtained his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in anaesthesiology from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). He furthered his training in pain management at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital in Australia. Dr Yoong started the acute pain service and the chronic pain service at CGH. In 2005, he became the first local graduate of the fellow of the Interventional Pain Practice.
He is a member of the Ministry of Health Opioids Committee, which published the first national opioid guidelines in 2019/2020.
Dr Yoong was active in teaching the younger generation of doctors and medical students. He was appointed clinical associate professor of anaesthesiology at NUS’ Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and SingHealth Duke-NUS anaesthesiology and perioperative sciences academic clinical programme.
He also has a keen interest in medical ethics. He was the chairman of CGH’s medical ethics committee and was appointed a member of the national transplant ethics panel of independent medical practitioners.
Dr Yoong has been practising medicine for more than 30 years.
